About
Us
Founded
in 2002, the Bergen Peace and Justice Coalition is a progressive
grassroots coalition
comprised of local community, faith-based and student organizations.
We serve as a link to our individual members and organizations
who are working for social, economic, racial and environmental
justice, and for peaceful solutions to conflicts throughout
the world.
Our primary functions are to educate, activate, and support
our members and constituencies on these issues.
The Coalition is a developing effort to
build a diverse grassroots organization which will collaborate
with its members on local, state and national issues. Our
objectives are to serve as a communication network for our
members; to develop and articulate a vision for local activism
as it relates to national and international movements; and
to mobilize our members and supporters in support of our
mission.
The Coalition is committed to functioning
on a non-partisan basis and will not endorse candidates for
elected office but may support public policy and legislative
initiatives. We strive to be inclusive and to oppose any
form of racism, sexism, classism, homophobia, discrimination,
exploitation or oppression.
